Dear Friends,

Well, here we are, crossing our fingers as the Lockdown restrictions begin to be lifted.  Let’s hope that our progress towards a return to normality will continue.

The Board of Trustees and the sub-committees are beginning to plan some live events for the future and we are all getting pretty excited about it!   We know that we will all have to be careful and take things slowly but we are feeling optimistic!

Well done to everyone who took part in the Easter Extravaganza Photo Competition last week – there are some really impressive entries on the website.  I never fail to be impressed by the imagination and creativity shown by our members. Brilliant.

The Federation Officers and I have been speaking to the Officers of all of our WIs on Zoom over the last couple of weeks and we have been very interested to hear the range of views and choices made regarding the option of offering some subscription flexibility.  One of our key purposes for those meetings was to ask WIs and their members to consider using Gift Aid if they are able to –  a little extra income like this would help us to balance our books and begin to make up the fundraising shortfall caused by the pandemic.   If you are a taxpayer and you would like to gift aid your subscription then it would help your WI, as well as Federation and National.

I’m sure you will be pleased to hear that the Special Meeting which we called to approve the new Constitution for the Federation was very well attended  with representatives from the majority of our WIs present.  We have registered the new approved Constitution with the Charity Commission so we are completely sorted for the future. We are hoping to see some of  you at the Annual Federation Meeting on 28th April – hopefully this will be the last one on-line and we can have a great get together in 2022.  (Plans are already afoot for a totally SPLENDID day!)

In the meantime we have some interesting talks on Zoom coming up:
My Summer Adventures with Britain in Bloom – Weds 14th Apr 7pm £5
Bake Brilliant Biscuits – Thurs 15th Apr 7pm £2.50
Jane Austen; 200 & counting – Mon 19th Apr 7pm £5
Chat with the Chair – Tues 20th Apr 2pm FREE
Serious Science – Sounding Stars – Tues 27th Apr 7.30pm £5

Plus you can now book for what we know will be a very popular Zoom talk …
Mark Francis – A Sewing Odyssey. Mon 10th May £5.
Mark was a Great British Sewing Bee series 6 quarter finalist! You will hear all about his journey into the sewing world, what filming was like, what he’s up to now and all the gossip from the sewing room! To book this or any other Zoom talk just email . We have plenty of spaces and so this talk is open to non-members, so please make your sewing friends and family aware of this one.

I do hope that you will be able to join us – and that you will be able to meet up with some of your WI friends in the near future.  This is likely to be the last of this type of newsletter as the next one will be delivered straight to your inbox if you are on email at the end of April, so do look out for it.  We will then begin the monthly email newsletter pattern as promised.

With very best wishes

Anne and the Board of Trustees.
