Calling all WIs who took part in the WFWI Scrapbook Competition in the 1950s or 1960s!

In the 1950s and 1960s Warwickshire Federation held some village history scrapbook competitions and I know that some of you still retain your entries as part of your archives.

We have been contacted by Cherish Watton, who is a PhD student at Cambridge and is researching the history of scrapbooks in Britain during the twentieth century. She is keen to learn about the competitions and the scrapbooks themselves.

If your WI has such a scrapbook from that time or you know that it has been lodged at the County Record Office or if you have any record of the competitions, Ms Watton would be very interested to hear from you on

We would be very grateful if you would also copy the Federation Archivist, Gillian Crisp, into your email to Cherish Watton so that we can update our Federation records as well.

We do hope that some of you will be able to participate in this exciting research, which illustrates the importance of keeping our precious archives securely.

Many thanks, Gillian

Gillian Crisp
