Denman Weekend – Application Form

Mistresses and their Homes (£445) John Vigar
REF – 192.1482
Many of our monarchs have had love interests outside of marriage. This course looks at lovers as varied as the Duke of Buckingham, Nell Gwynne and Daisy Countess of Warwick and looks at the history of their houses as well as the part they played in our national history. Visits to Hampton Court Palace, and one other house will be arranged, subject to availability

Glass Fusion – an Introduction (£360 + materials) Shirley Eccles
REF – 192.1485
This workshop will give you an introduction to glass fusing and slumping techniques and you will aspire to complete four projects during your visit to Denman. You will learn about different glass materials and how they react once fired and you will have the opportunity to explore different colours, textures and techniques in glass.
Project 1: Microwave Glass Fusing. For this project you will be using a microwave to melt glass and you will be able to observe how glass reacts when heated. The small finished glass pieces are suitable for jewellery, keyrings and fridge magnets. This project is a wonderful opportunity to test and experiment with different materials and colours.
Project 2: Decorative Tile. For this project you will extend your use of different glass materials and colours (transparent and opaque) to create an interesting design for a tile, coaster, small wall/window hanging or wind chime. You will be guided in your use of different glass tools and how to melt glass stringers over a candle flame.
Project 3: Slumped Bowl. You will have the opportunity to create your own sheet of art glass that will undergo two firings, first fusing and then slump firing it into a mould of your choice to make your own beautiful, unique bowl. The bowl will be functional and is suitable as a decorative centre piece or to serve treats or salads.
Project 4: Learn the technique of kiln carving and how to create texture in glass. For this project we will work with extra thick clear glass and you will have a choice of projects to select from. Either a cheese board, wall plaque, four coasters or a platter.
Cost for all four Projects is £55 or £65 (depending on the size of the platters) and this price includes all firings. Findings for jewellery, keyrings and magnets are optional extras; these along with silver chains, can be purchased from the tutor.

Discover more of this man’s amazing talents as we learn a selection of songs from his shows spanning his early 1960’s output right up to recent works. NEW COURSE …
Ribbon Embroidery: The Denman Garden (£360 + Materials) Marilyn Pipe

Using photos and samples of ribbon work for inspiration, as well as demonstrations of flowers and foliage, create your own interpretation of your chosen corner of Denman’s beautiful grounds with silk ribbons and embroidery threads. A background can be lightly sponged on with paint before flower details are added, all flower stitches will be demonstrated then you can “plant” your garden at your own pace. This piece will be framed in a frame ready to take home.
Packs of silk ribbons will be available to purchase from the tutor, for £25 including your frame.
