Hundred Years Tour – London
May 2 @ 9:30 am - 6:30 pm£55
After a leisurely start at 9.30am we travel to London to meet our top notch Blue badge Guide at midday and begin our tour with time to buy a light lunch in Parliament Square. We tour the West End where one of the founders of the WI turned over her ballroom to packing “smokes for soldiers” during the Great War and follow the trail of the Suffragettes to the East End where the Match Girls’ STrike of 1888 paved the way for improvements in women’s lives. We will also visit the excellent Florence Nightingale Museum to see the beautifully curated exhibition ‘Spanish Flu – Nursing during historus deadliest pandemic’. On the centenary of the Spanish Flu we find out how the pandemic spread across the globe, the strange and often dangerous ‘treatments’ and discover how nurses – inspired by the work of Florence Nightingale – were often the only thing that helped, amd therefore it was typically women that bore the brunt of trying to halt this deadly killer.
The day end with the best fish and chips in London before heading home at 6.30pm after the worst of the rush hour
