A Thousand Faces – The Untold Story of the Face

We all have one, and we see them every day on other people, but what is a face? They can reflect a thousand expressions, yet what do they tell us? And the only one we never see in the flesh is our own – how strange is that?

From masks to faces in art, in this illustrated talk, speaker and novelist Dr Justin Newland explores the magic and mystery of the face.

An Introduction to Hidden Art in Ancient Egypt

Just as there is the Egypt we (think we) can explain, there’s an Egypt we can’t, or haven’t. It’s said that to understand Ancient Egypt, you must think like an Egyptian. While that’s not possible, we can at least appreciate how they thought.
In this talk speaker and novelist Dr Justin Newland explores some aspects of their art that we think we can explain, and then conjecture about some things whose meaning and significance remains obscure.

I’m an author of six historical fiction novels, with a seventh due out in 2026. From the research for the books, I’ve written a number of talks about the different historical periods in which they are set. As well as generic talks about history, I’ve developed some general interest talks, talks on Ancient Egypt, and some on writing, researching and publishing. I currently have 17 talks.
